1938 AL Game: Cle. at Det. Sept. 24th

September 24, 1938

Detroit's Hank Greenberg set some new ML record milestones today but it wasn't enough as the Cleveland Indians came from behind to defeat the Tigers 8-5. Greenberg hit 2hr's in the game giving him 81 on the year and added 4rbi to give him a season total of 201! Though the Tigers lost, the 2nd place NY Yankees also lost to Boston making the Magic # 2 for Detroit to clinch the pennant.

Mel Harder had a complete game as the Cleveland Indians beat the Detroit
Tigers by a score of 8 to 5.
 
Detroit was unable to recover after Cleveland went ahead in the 6th inning
plating one baserunner.  Hal Trosky tripled.  One out later, Ken Keltner came
to bat and hit a sacrifice fly.  John Kroner then drew a walk.  Roxie Lawson
then was wild with a pitch.  Harder came to the plate and drew a walk.
Cleveland managed 11 hits in their victory.  
 
Harder(16-13) was the winner allowing 5 runs for the game. Lawson(14-6) was
given the loss in relief.  He gave up 1 run and 1 hit in 1 inning.
