St. Louis Cardinal Johnny Mize won the NL MVP by a slim margin over New York's Mel Ott. Mize's BA dipped below the .400 mark during the last week of the season but he still won the batting title with a .394 average. Mize also lead the league in RBI with 137 and finished 2nd to Ott in HR with 34.
Cincinnati's Paul Derringer wins the Cy Young Award by posting #'s of 22-11, a 2.79ERA and 128K's. He had 6 shutouts among his 24 complete games.
