1938 AL Game: Was. at Det.

June 19, 1938

Hank Greenberg hit home run #30 today in Detroit's 11-5 victory over the Washington Senators. The Tiger's Charlie Gehringer's grand slam in the 8th inning put the game away for Detroit, but it was Greenberg's blast 2 batters later that had the crowd buzzing. Hank is now on pace to hit 84 dingers, which would shatter Babe Ruth's record of 60 hit in 1927.

Charlie Gehringer cleared the bases with his grand slam as the Detroit Tigers
outscored the Washington Senators 11 to 5.

Gehringer enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He stroked a single in the 5th
inning and cleared the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 8th inning.
Washington tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

Vern Kennedy(5-4) got the win allowing 3 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Ken
Chase(1-3) absorbed the loss. 'You have to give Washington credit, they
fought us tough to the end' Del Baker said. 'It could have gone either way,
but I'm glad we pulled out the victory.'
