Catcher Rudy York cracked 2 homeruns and Al Benton allowed Del Baker to rest
his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the mighty Detroit Tigers really laid
it on the Chicago White Sox 18 to 2.

York had a great day at the plate. He laced a single bringing in a run in the
1st inning, emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 3rd inning and
belted a three-run homer in the 5th inning. Detroit kept the scorekeepers
busy in the 3rd inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 3 hits, the 4th inning
with 5 runs on 4 hits, the 5th inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits and the
7th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 4 hits. Detroit totaled 18 hits on
the afternoon.

The victory was credited to Benton(3-5) who went the distance, allowing 2
runs. Jack Knott(8-7) took the loss. His ERA increased from 3.44 to 3.83 as
he allowed 10 runs in 3 innings.

York was jubilant after the game 'Let me see a box-score' he joked, 'I want to
see how that game looks on paper.'
