Detroit's Hank Greenberg has been having a record setting year but he may have just had his best game of the season today. In their first game back after the All Star break the Tigers defeated the Chicago White Sox 10-4 led by Greenberg's power hitting. With Detroit trailing 2-0 in the 6th, Greenberg started the inning off with a HR, his 43rd of the season. Rudy York followed, and he hit a solo shot giving the Tigers back-to-back HR's to tie the game. Detroit continued to rally that inning and Greenberg came to the plate again with 2 runners aboard. Hank then hit HR #44 giving him 2 homers hit in the same inning along with 4 RBI. His next time up, in the 8th inning, Greenberg hit a 2 run homer, his 45th of the season, giving him 3 HR's and 6 RBI on the day.

First baseman Hank Greenberg blasted 3 homeruns and had 6 RBI at Briggs
Stadium as the Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox 10 to 4.
Greenberg provided much of the offense. He singled in the 1st inning, smashed
a solo-shot out of the park in the 6th inning, belted a three-run homer in
the 6th inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the
8th inning. Neither team was able to score until the 6th inning.
The win was credited to Vern Kennedy(7-4) who went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing
4 runs. Kennedy got help from Slick Coffman who was credited with his 8th
save. Monty Stratton(4-4) was the loser. He got hit hard, allowing 8 hits
and 3 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
'Greenberg led the way - we just jumped on his back and let him take us,'
Kennedy said. 'I'm glad I don't have to face him. I'm glad he's on my team.'
