Carl Hubbell blanked Pittsburgh in a very well-pitched complete game and Mel
Ott smacked 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Polo Grounds where the New York
Giants beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 9 to 0.

Ott enjoyed a big day at the plate. He lined a base-hit resulting in a run in
the 1st inning, bombed a two-run dinger in the 3rd inning, ripped a solo home
run in the 5th inning and clubbed a solo home run in the 8th inning. New
York had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate
innings.

Hubbell(3-3) went the distance for the shutout. The losing pitcher was Ed
Brandt(2-1). New York scored big getting 5 runs off him in 4 and 2/3
innings.

'I felt great out there today,' Ott said, 'Maybe I should make a regular habit
of getting to bed on time!'
